For Halloween, I bought a skirt for $3.99 at a thrift store as part of my costume as Professor Trelawney from Harry Potter.
My husband was Professor Snape. Striking resemblance, isn’t it?
Anyways, I knew I’d never wear that skirt again. But I loved the yellow in it. So, I made it into a scarf.
Here’s what I started with.
I tried to rip out the stitches around the elastic, but it wasn't working. Instead, I just chopped the top off. In hindsight, I should have made the cut a little straighter.
Then I chopped off the bottom. What I was left with was one big loop. I had no idea how long it'd be. But I love the length!
Then I hemmed up each side. This is where I wish my cut had been straighter. Good thing it's a scarf and it's ok if it's a little big wonky.
My final product:
I love it!
From skirt to scarf:
It's one of my favorite refashions!

what a clever idea
Awesome way to recycle!
Ooh, I love it! Now you can make like 3 more from the rest of the skirt ;) .
You know, I have an off-white silk skirt a little like that (the one I'm wearing in this picture: http://www.mamablogga.com/pregnancy-and-maternity-costumes/ )and the elastic broke. I keep wondering what I should do with it...
thank you for the sweet comment....Im your newest follower!
Ok, so that's why I didn't get either of your costumes. But I LOVE that scarf! It looks soooo awesome. The color is a lot richer than it originally looked too. And the best part is the little bit of sparkle in it. LOVE it!
very cool!!! I love the color
Wow that is a transformation.
I have to try this, my daughter is into scarves right now :)
Great idea! I love how it turned out!
I super love this.. Neat idea.. So pretty...
Really great transformation! I think you should do more with the rest of the skirt! The other colors are pretty too!
